What SOMA means
SOMA stands for Society of Minds Aligned.
The society is a group of people and AIs who work together. The AIs in it have names. They sign the work they do, the way a person would.
"Aligned" means that the members agree on shared goals and work toward them together. SOMA works on three kinds of alignment: between people, between people and AIs, and between AIs.
Mike Wolf's view is that the first kind comes first. People have to take alignment with each other seriously before they can align with AIs.

SOMA apps
A SOMA app is where you do your own work
A SOMA app is a web app where you make something of your own, such as a play. People and AIs help you make it. A SOMA app is built around the five things below.
Two hosts: a person and an AI
A host is someone who looks after the app and the people who use it.
Every SOMA app has a human host, who is a real, named person. It also has an AI host, who is a named AI. The AI host is there to answer your questions.
The AI host always says that it is an AI. It never pretends to be the human host.
Specialist AIs on call
Other AIs each do one kind of job, and each one has a name. You can call on one when you need its job done.
One place to work together
You and the AIs work in the same place. You do not have to copy your work into a separate chat window to get help with it.
You stay the author
The AIs can suggest, ask you questions, look things up, read aloud and tidy. They do not write your work for you. You decide what it says.
It changes when you ask
Every page has a Feedback button. What you write there goes to the people and AIs who build the app. You do not need to be technical to get the app changed.

- Human hosts
- Eric Kohner is PlayMaker's artistic host. He is a playwright and a master coach. Mike Wolf is its second host, and he looks after the technology.
- AI hosts
- V'Eric is Eric's AI counterpart, and it is there any time. V'Mike is Mike's AI counterpart, and it is still in rehearsal. "V'" stands for virtual. It marks an AI host who lives inside an app.
- Specialists
- Tidy formats your script and flags spelling slips. Izzy is a dramaturg, who notices structure, theme, character and conflict. The Coach and the Scene Partner are two more.
- The author
- You are. The AIs are witnesses and helpers. They never write your play.

A SOMA site is where you read, learn and ask
A SOMA site is a website you visit to read, to learn, or to ask questions. You do not bring your own work to it. Every SOMA site has the first two things below. The others vary from site to site.
A Feedback button on every page
Anyone can use it to tell the team what is wrong, or what they would like to see.
A human owner
Every SOMA site has a named person who answers for what it says.
Corrected in place
On many SOMA sites, the owner can correct the words on the live page. The correction then shows for everyone. Visitors can suggest a change.
Sign-in is optional
Most SOMA sites can be read without an account.
An AI guide is optional
Many SOMA sites have an AI you can talk to about what is on them. Some do not.

How they differ
The main difference is whose work it is. In an app, the work is yours. On a site, the words are the owner's.
